PassageQuilting&trade Through Life's Transitions

Presentation, 1 hr

This multi-media presentation will 1) review the traditions of bereavement and memorial quilts with historical images, 2) outline and correlate the external process of making a Passage Quilt with the internal process of bereavement through images and stories from my practice, 3) speak to the power of repurposing meaningful materials and the green practice of srap quilting, 4) provide a hands-on opportunity for audience participation.

This process will be the vehicle for inner work and outward expression as it reveals and orients the patterns by which we survive, develop and transform. No sewing experience necessary. Sewing machine required.

1 day workshop

Free your creative energy while learning the basics of improvisational quilt making. This is a twist on the Round Robin, a tradition in which a group of friends create a quilt together. At the end of the workshop participants will each come away with a quilt top made from the scraps of every day life. No sewing experience necessary. Sewing machine required.

Quilting With Clothing: Techniques

2 hr demo, 4 hr workshop

Learn basic techniques for repurposing clothing for your quilts. Emphasis will be on perserving the architectural elements of the clothing and will include deconstruction of the garments, curved and template free piecing, working with knits and variable weight materials. No sewing experience necessary. Sewing Machine required for workshop only.

Basting/Binding/Hand Quilting

2 hr demo, 4 hr workshop

Learn everything you need to know to finish your quilt. Techniques covered include basting, freehand marking, big-stitch hand quilting, tying, and bias binding. No sewing experience necessary.
